Transformative Leadership Guided by Grace

Building Community: Pastor George Burrell's Vision for Internal Hope Fellowship

Pastor George E. Burrell, Sr. planted Internal Hope Fellowship, March 1999. Serving as Senior Pastor and Teacher, he embodies unwavering commitment and profound compassion in ministry. With a deep-rooted faith and a genuine desire to serve, he leads the congregation with grace and wisdom. Pastor Burrell's dynamic sermons resonate with authenticity, offering spiritual guidance and inspiration to all who gather under his leadership. His dedication to fostering a nurturing community where individuals can grow in their faith and support one another is evident in every aspect of his pastoral care. Through his tireless efforts, Pastor Burrell cultivates an atmosphere of inclusivity and love, where each member feels valued and empowered to embrace their spiritual journey. With humility and a servant's heart, he exemplifies the teachings of Christ, leaving a lasting impact on the lives he touches within Internal Hope Fellowship and beyond. Fueling his passion to see families and individuals thrive and reach their full potential, Pastor Burrell works with great fervor to equip others on how to live victoriously, even in the midst of life’s challenges. Prior to planting Internal Hope, Pastor Burrell served for 29 years as Chaplain with Harris County Jail/Sheriff’s Department. He began the ministry as a volunteer and became the first Black Staff Chaplain in its history.

Pastor Burrell attended University of Houston and College of Biblical Studies. He is an alumnus of the Billy Graham School of Evangelism and E.K. Bailey International Expository Preaching Conference and John MacArthur’s Shepherds Conference. He is a past Silver Award recipient for outstanding Christian Leadership in the community from the Harris County Council of Organizations and has served as a board member for “Youth- Reach Houston” (a long-term Christian foster family group home that ministers to the mental, physical and spiritual needs of this generation’s troubled youth) and member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Pastor Burrell, in the coming months looks forward, Lord Willing, to celebrating 50 years of marriage to the love of his life, Kathy Anita Phelps Burrell. Sis. Kathy serves as Director of Ministry Operations. Because of her heart's desire to mentor teen girls and young adult women, she birthed Earth's Angles ministry as an instrument in illustrating the victory and power these ladies have in Jesus Christ.

Pastor Burrell and Sis. Kathy are blessed to witness their adult sons continue to grow in their faith. God’s grace has no boundaries as he continues extending salvation to six grandchildren who have accepted Christ as their Savior. The Burrells are blessed with three guardian daughters who also have a passion and love for our Lord. Pastor Burrell and Sis. Kathy’s desire is to finish well...through discipling, mentoring and continuing the mission of Spreading Hope in an Uncertain World.
